Ever seen the work of a photographer who sees with a painter's eyes? What you get is far more than a photo. Morris Grover is that kind of photographer and you will be missing out if you don't stop in to see this lovely and fascinating show.
Mark Cheney has created driftwood fish with personality! The photos below are simply teasers, because you need to see these guys in person to enjoy them properly.

3 Kitties Have a New Home!
27 people attended the adoption event held in our Community Room on Oct. 5th, and 3 of the cats looking for love - had their wish come true! This was our second Adoptathon, and we will very likely make it an annual, if not semi-annual, event. In the meantime, don't hesitate to contact United Paws if you're looking for a dog or cat to adopt, and you can visit their blog here: http://unitedpaws.wordpress.com/ to see where their next adoption event will be held.

Capt Robert Gray Gets a New Sign!
A new sign to commemorate the Tillamook Passage of Capt Robert Gray was dedicated on Sept. 12, 2013. It's been updated to correctly reflect information about his accomplishment and those of his crew members. The dedication was attended by some of our Board members and two ladies representing the Oregon Black Pioneers organization. Marcus Lopez was a member of the crew on the Lady Washington, and is thought to be the first black person to set foot in Oregon. Theirs is a fascinating website: http://oregonblackpioneers.org/
The new sign is in the wayside right next to Pirate's Cove just a short way north of Garibaldi. Stop by and take a look to honor this national hero, and inspiration for our own maritime museum.

Rose Perez Reception had a great turnout!
Good food, the gracious presence of the artist and a short talk by the author of 'Nestucca River Country', Sally Rissel, made this reception a highly enjoyable event.
Rose (in the pink blouse) chats with a visitor.
Can you say 'Yum!'
Author Sally Rissel gives a brief talk about how the book came to be. Rose also spoke about her early life and venture into painting. Rose provided the cover illustration painting for this lovely book - which we carry in our gift shop.
One of Rose's signature oil seascapes.
Another of Rose's colorful romantic landscapes.

Garibaldi Days and way on back....
We just discovered there's a Facebook page devoted to the history of Garibaldi and surrounding towns; Bay City, Rockaway, Wheeler, and Nehalem. There are good quality historical photos of the area. It's definitely worth a visit: Garibaldi Oregon Memories. Thanks to Bill Hayden for letting us know this terrific page is out there!
The Grub Club Does the Garibaldi Museum
On Monday, the Garibaldi Grub Club was
invited to the Garibaldi Museum for a free museum day. Fourteen
children of all ages (2 1/2 to 17) strolled, rode bikes, and scooters to the museum
after indulging in a hearty lunch. It was a perfect sunny day for
the after lunch exercise. Many had not been to the
museum before. It was a terrific opportunity for them to learn some of their
local history, and appreciate the maritime history of the Pacific Northwest.
They
built buckets, assembled boats, dressed up in colonial costumes, as well as
taking turns ringing our notably loud - CLAAAANNGGGG!!! ) ) ) ) ) ) ) bell in the Garibaldi Room.
S'okay...that's what it's there for!
