Capt Robert Gray Gets a New Sign!
A new sign to commemorate the Tillamook Passage of Capt Robert Gray was dedicated on Sept. 12, 2013. It's been updated to correctly reflect information about his accomplishment and those of his crew members. The dedication was attended by some of our Board members and two ladies representing the Oregon Black Pioneers organization. Marcus Lopez was a member of the crew on the Lady Washington, and is thought to be the first black person to set foot in Oregon. Theirs is a fascinating website: http://oregonblackpioneers.org/
The new sign is in the wayside right next to Pirate's Cove just a short way north of Garibaldi. Stop by and take a look to honor this national hero, and inspiration for our own maritime museum.
